For some, it<br \/>comes across as harsh, but for others willing to deliberate a little further, it seems representative of the life experience of<br \/>an African American man living in the infamous zip code of 53206. So, what has his 39 years thus far been like? As is<br \/>true of ALL of us, his time here has been shaped by a number of statistics, but none of them showcase the entirety of his<br \/>essence &#8211; his presence and rising prominence is evident. Here\u2019s just a small glimpse into the making of this real emcee\u2026<\/p>                                    <\/div>\n                                <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                    <\/div>\n\n                <div class=\"eael-elements-flip-box-rear-container\">\n                                                                <div class=\"eael-elements-slider-display-table\">\n                            <div class=\"eael-elements-flip-box-vertical-align\">\n                                <div class=\"eael-elements-flip-box-padding\">\n                                                                                                            <div class=\"eael-elements-flip-box-content\">\n                                        <p>David Lavester Rhodes was born on December 7, 1983 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Beverly Rhodes and David Reynolds.<br \/>His mother, who will become the namesake for his musical collaboration with his only sibling, older brother Jevoni J. Billa<br \/>Rhodes, described him as an alert, aware, and perceptive baby and toddler.<\/p>                                    <\/div>\n\n                                                                    <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                                    <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        \t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-6703fa9 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"6703fa9\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-a8a64fd\" data-id=\"a8a64fd\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5d0e07c elementor-alert-info elementor-widget elementor-widget-alert\" data-id=\"5d0e07c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"alert.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-alert\" role=\"alert\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-title\">His educational journey, <\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-description\">which continues to be a life priority, began at the meek age of three at Phillis Wheatley\nElementary School. Even in those early years, it was apparent that he was destined to perform on a variety of stages -\nacademically, athletically, and especially, musically. Yeah, he was THAT student - dynamic, multi-faceted, and driven to\nexcel in many settings be it at the desk, the soccer field, the basketball court, or the summer enrichment camps at\nUW-Madison.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8e6b81e elementor-alert-info elementor-widget elementor-widget-alert\" data-id=\"8e6b81e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"alert.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-alert\" role=\"alert\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-title\">His earliest performances<\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-description\"> were in classrooms where he was a \u2018one-man-band\u2019 just trying to entertain his peers. David\nfurther enhanced his skills in middle school as he played both the string bass and the harmonica. Ultimately, though, it\nwas in his freshman year at James Madison University High School that a new identity was born - Drastic (shout-out to\nolder peer and fellow Milwaukee rapper, Micole L.O.V.E. Gentry, for being part of that process). The cafeteria became\nhis new venue to showcase his beats, his rapping, and his battle abilities. That transferred with ease to the Miramar\nTheater, the Rave, Club Leoric, Club Zarkos, Diamonds, and so on, and marked the beginning of a now decades-long\ncommitment to honing his craft so as to make a permanent impact on the Milwaukee hip hop scene. The onset of\nadulthood brought both strides and setbacks in this journey.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bd700d0 elementor-alert-info elementor-widget elementor-widget-alert\" data-id=\"bd700d0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"alert.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-alert\" role=\"alert\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-title\">To his credit,<\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-description\">in 2004, two years after graduating from high school, Drastic and high school friend Tristan VSS a.ka. Mke\nTristan Polnitz, co-founded Militia Minded Records which included thirteen members. This local pursuit became an\nentity of the regional independent label (entertainment\/distribution company) they also co-founded - the Midwest\nAlliance. Under Drastic\u2019s leadership and via the use of company-based social media outlets, this remains a place for\nMidwest artists to promote their content and to access supporting services such as writing, production, photography,\nvideography, and engineering.\n<\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c83bebb elementor-alert-danger elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-alert\" data-id=\"c83bebb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"alert.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-alert\" role=\"alert\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-title\">To his detriment,<\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-description\">in 2007 and 2008 Drastic wound up in legal trouble (a shooting case) that resulted in prison time just as Universal Records was taking an interest in him. When he was released in 2009 from Boot Camp, he continued his\nmusical pursuits and quickly created a buzz once again. Unfortunately, that was short-lived due to another incarceration\n(drug possession) later that year. After being released at the end of 2012, he traveled back and forth between Madison\nand Milwaukee collaborating with long-time family members and friends: Marquese D.J. Sixteen Ford, Lemondre Big\nPoppitwang Johnson, Brian Killa B. Suggs, Hamp Squad, and Hamp Vill (KVC). Regrettably, he returned to prison in 2013\nfor a short stint and was released after serving a parole violation. He was only out for four months before being indicted\nfor being the keeper of a house of prostitution, which was ultimately dismissed on trial, but still led him to serve three\nyears revocation time.\n\n<\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-d099cee\" data-id=\"d099cee\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-31a6771 elementor-alert-warning elementor-widget elementor-widget-alert\" data-id=\"31a6771\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"alert.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-alert\" role=\"alert\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-title\">In spite of interruptions <\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-description\">resulting from incarcerations, his aspirations remained intact. His experience in the system\nprofoundly impacted his worldview and the results of that are clear in many layers of his musical approach. Drastic\u2019s\nsongs, such as: \u201cBlack Sheep,\u201d \u201cDrastic - Politically Incorrect,\u201d \u201cElohim King,\u201d \u201cThe Minstrel Show: The Willie Lynch\nEpisode,\u201d \u201cBlack KKKlansmen,\u201d and \u201cWar Goin\u2019 On\u201d all put that reality on blast and hit really deep. Yet, even in the midst\nof personally grappling with those effects, he looked for ways to redirect his energy so as to uplift his future (and that of\nhis daughter, Kailani, born in 2019) and to lend support to others. From this place (of renewal and growth?), he and J.\nBilla co-founded Bev Boyz in 2021. They have already completed one album together, \u201cOur Piece of Art,\u201d and future\nprojects are also in the works. Additionally, Drastic is currently running a revamped version of FACT (Felons and\nCommunity Together), a program originally founded in the late 1970s by his father and his uncle, Michael McGee (a\nrenowned Black Panther), to make resources available to ex-convicts. He aims to follow in their stead by being a\nchange-maker and building off of their successful efforts in the greater Milwaukee area because, once again, the\ncommunity is facing drastic times and is, therefore, in need of Drastic\u2019s measures.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f2a50dd elementor-alert-success elementor-widget elementor-widget-alert\" data-id=\"f2a50dd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"alert.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-alert\" role=\"alert\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-title\">Between 2023 and 2024<\/span>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-alert-description\">He aims to finalize a single song deal with Sony (Buss Down), graduate with an Associate of Arts\nDegree from MATC, and start his Bachelors in Business Administration.
